We’ve been sharing several posts lately that include the healing power of essential oils for mood, sleep, or energy and now we’d like to show you how you can use them for practical, everyday uses around your home! DIY Essential Oil Mixtures
Lavender—Mix 5 to 10 drops of this essential oil into 1 ounce of water and spray onto your pillow and
sheets for a sound night’s rest. Lavender has a naturally calming effect on the system and can help you fall asleep more easily and gain more restful sleep.
Palmarosa—Add 5 to 10 drops of this warm floral scent to 1 ounce of almond oil then add to your warm bath. This essential oil works to gently strengthen the nervous system and is powerful, which is why a carrier oil is necessary.
Geranium—Create an uplifting massage oil with 5 to 10 drops of this earthy scent added to one ounce of grapeseed oil. Using this blend will help focus the mind, soothe your emotions and provide a mental boost after a difficult day.
Rosemary—Add 5 to 10 drops of this woodsy scent to 1 ounce water and use as a room spray for an fresh-smell. Try adding a few drops of grapefruit essential oil along with the rosemary to invigorate the room.
DIY Essential Oil Mood Mixtures
With so many essential oils available, the possibilities for combinations are nearly endless. For either of the DIY recipes below you will add the oils to a clean spray bottle that is filled with 4 ounces pure distilled water. Be sure to use a dropper to accurately count the amounts of the oils then close the bottle tightly and shake vigorously to combine. Shake before each use! Separation of oil in water is normal.
For a quick pick-me-up try blending 1 drop eucalyptus, 2 drops geranium, and 3 drops peppermint essential oils. This combination is useful to start your day or during a 4 o’clock slump. For a list of other oils to try to boost energy and get a pick-me-up, see this recent post.

Be sure to do your research on which oils can be applied topically without the use of a carrier oil. Some companies, like Young Living, pride themselves in supplying the most potent oils that are safe to apply directly to skin. While all essential oils available on our site are wonderful, other company’s oils will require a carrier like jojoba, apricot, or those listed above (almond and grapseed). The power of essential oils is remarkable and once you find a combination or a specific oil that will address the mood or ailments you need it to, you’ll understand why there are devoted followers of these concentrations.
